Hey guys! On my hippie quest of following my soul, tuning into nature and getting back to being as natural as I can, I have read a lot lately about fluoride and how it can actually be hurting us more than helping.
So, if you aren’t aware, fluoride is added into most US drinking water through a process called fluoridation. It is also added in most dental products such as tooth paste and mouthwash. It is believed to help reduce tooth decay in children and adults and that is the reason we are getting it.
So that sounds fine, right? Like “yay fluoride!, keep it up!” But, if you research it at all, you will find numerous arguments that it is, in fact, harmful to us. And yes, I am aware that there are arguments for both sides and that each site you visit has an agenda, but after reading more about it all, I tend to back the side that, yeah…it’s probably not a good thing.
First of all, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is no discernible difference in tooth decay between developed countries that add fluoride to their water and those who do not. The decline in tooth decay the US has experienced over the last 60 years, which is often attributed to flouridated water, has likewise occurred in all developing countries (most of which do not fluoridate their water).
Now, with that statement, I also found other places where it looked like the WHO was supporting fluoride (as long as it was in very low dosages). So, you can make up your own mind about that. Like I said, every site you visit is going to have an agenda.
Something that can’t be slanted toward a view is the status of other countries and where they stand. Here are a few:
- Denmark- rejected
- Hungary- stopped
- Japan- rejected
- Belgium- rejected
- China- banned
Pretty crazy, eh? I find that really alarming that those countries have stopped or even banned it but yet, we in the US, keep on getting it.
No matter what side an organization is on, it does look like they all agree that too much fluoride is a bad thing. It can cause a host of things such as
- skeletal fluorosis which can lead the pain and damage in joints and bones
- Neurological problems- too much fluoride before birth can cause poor cognitive issues in the future
- Thyroid issues
- High blood pressure
Another thing it can do is mess up your pineal gland.
According to global healing center.com, the pineal gland is located in the center of your brain and responsible for melatonin synthesis (which plays a role in maintaining normal rhythms and sleep cycles) and also helps convert signals between our nervous and endocrine systems.
When we consume too much fluoride, it can calcify on the gland, blocking its effectiveness. This can lead to things like trouble sleeping or even weight gain. According to Gaia.com it is believed that most people over the age of 18-yrs old now have a calcified pineal gland.
Now, if you want to get into more of a “spiritual/ consciousness” side, it is said the pineal gland is the “third eye”. It is believed it is the “seat to the soul”. It is shaped like a pine cone and you can see this on imagery traced back in many cultures. In ancient Egypt it is even said that certain pineal exercises were created to help with psychic development.
Do I believe in all of this? Yeah, I do. I have always thought that our five senses are just what we need to get around in this reality. It’s what our physical body needs to move around and navigate in this physical world. I have also felt there is more to reality than what these limited five sense can detect. So to say there is a gland in our brain that, if healthy and nurtured, can also detect things beyond the limited five senses…well, that doesn’t seem weird to me.
After reading and learning about both sides, to me, it seems that too much fluoride is not a good thing-physically (or if you believe like I do, spiritually).
With this knowledge I will be taking steps to de-fluoride my life. First, with my water. I drink a lot of it and even though I use filters, they were not filtering out the fluoride. Until I found this…
It’s from Pure Water Freedom and it’s a water bottle that filters water, including fluoride, and straws I can throw in my bag …so not only can I guard myself against fluoride, I can help the environment. #winning The next steps will be with toothpaste and mouthwash and such.
I hope this post motivates you to do your own research and find out what you think for yourself. I’m not trying to convince you of my point or “side”, I just want you to question things…especially what’s in your drinking water!
